I've been on Maui for almost eight months now and figured it was time to take a break form the everyday work life. So I packed my bags and met up with the Live2Kite crew down in Baja for a week. Every year the crew goes down for the La Ventana Classic. There was a lot going on at the 2012 Kite Expo this year and all for a good cause. I had a great time but must admit I did miss my DeeDee back in Maui. She did score a couple days of 5m wind at our old stomping grounds while I was down in Baja. Thanks to the Koff's I had an awesome little spot to rest my head right on the beach for the week that I was there. Baja was great but I think my place for now is still on Maui. Here are some photos to show you what you missed out on if you didn't make it to the 2012 La Ventana Kite Expo this year. Yeah it only blew 2 of the 4 days but that's better than nothing.

I just picked up a set of Religion MKll's, its their all new wave kite. They're bullet proof, just what I need for Maui.

The Vision's are still a big part of my quiver but these new Regilions are going to take it to the next level in the waves. The thing just feels solid.

I got to check out the new Underground surfboards.

Here's one of our international riders for RRD, Julien Kerneur. He's one of the leading racers in Europe and come to find out he's one hell of a big air guy too. While in Mexico he scored 1st place in the big air event at Lord of the Wind Showdown t hen came up to the La Ventana Classic and scored 3rd in the big air event. Check him out; Julien Kerneur

The RRD race board is one of the top production boards for racing, not to many racers riding production boards, but Julien did for all his races, pretty amazing.

Damien Leroy took advantage of the light wind to show off his race skills, dude kills it on a race board. Not a white cap in the bay and Damien's still flying.

My buddy Joey Pasquali also kills it on a race board but when the wind drops to zero there's only one way to get back to shore. At least he had a beer for the paddle in.

The RRD tent was busy demoing out kites when the wind was up. I know everybody likes riding the gear they're familiar with but its good to test out other kites back to back to see what you really like. The best piece of advice I can tell someone is take advantage of these demos. You never know what you'll come across.

Another beautiful day in the bay of La Ventana. As the wind comes to an end, get ready for some of the best sunsets and sunrises you'll ever see.

All and all the expo raised 23,500$ for the local schools and community even after the local Government stepped in to take their cut.

La Ventana in one of my all time favor places to be, not only is it an great kite spot but its just an awesome place to be. From the beautiful scenery down to the friendly locals.

The pole boarders are fun to hang with just make sure you don't hit any of them. After a big set all you can see is a bunch of them trying to get back up on their board, it's kind of like a bunch of speed bumps out there.

Maui has been treating us great, lots of wind and more wave action starting to roll in making DeeDee and I love this place even more.

Well as you can see not to many new pictures on the blog but thats a good thing. It means DeeDee and I have been riding more than sitting around. I moved out here to work with my brother servicing heavy equipment. He rented DeeDee and I one of his properties up in Makawao (Up Country Maui) We love it. It's only about 15 mins to kite beach here on Maui and we've been hitting it up every chance we get.

Being out on the water everyday is something words cannot describe. From the water it's a totally different view on everything. Looking back at the island seeing the long uphill road that leads to our new home, watching the planes come and go thinking of all the people coming and leaving makes me realize how lucky I really am. As I fly by the huge turtles on my badass surfboard I head straight to the deep blue water, only then to cruise along side of the hard core windsurfers that call Maui their home. Then back to shore to see all the people showing off near the pro pool. It's a special feeling every time I throw up my kite out here. Then to have my beautiful girlfriend along side of me out there makes everything come together with a feeling that very few people will ever experience.

When my truck gets here from the mainland with all of our belonging I'll start work again. Once again I'll work to live and not live to work. If you know what that means then your most likely on the same page as DeeDee and I. I've been getting lots of responses on our move to Maui. All I can say to people is nothing is going to change unless you make a change. So if you are one of those people that live to work and not work to live, stop and ask yourself what are you doing it for? Do what you love and you'll love what you do!!! Who knows where you'll be tomorrow so live life to it's fullest.

With all that said wherever you are stop and ask your self are you doing what you really want to be doing, If not change it!!!

Working with the guys from Live2kite has been working out great. Being the US distributor for RRD, Mystic and UnderGround we loaded up the live2kite van and headed south to Long Beach for the Kite Surfari demo day. First day wasn't so windy, but it gave everyone time to check out the gear and see what's new. A few of the racers got out on the water but that was about it.

Day 2 of the event the wind started blowing around noon. Lots of gear to try out and lots of people trying out gear. I had a great time and enjoyed showing the locals what RRD, Mystic and Underground has to offer. That's what a demo should be all about. Plenty of wind for everybody, good attitudes and showing up. I'm glad it worked out for Kite Surfari they deserve it. Hope both of their shops do well.

Yep, you're seeing it right DeeDee and I are now proud riders for our buddy at Live 2 Kite.

We took the trip over the Golden Gate Bridge and checked out the shop in Greenbrae Ca.. That place is huge! I'd say the biggest shop on the west coast for sure. Not only that but they have all the killer brands, Mystic, RRD, UnderGround and plenty more to choose from. If in the bay area and want to check out what a kite shop should look like go check out the shop in Greenbrae Ca.

DeeDee and I tried out the Vision made by RRD, it's their wave kite. There are no real waves here at Sherman Island but the kite feels like an all around great kite. Really fast, well built and lots of de-power. First thing I noticed was the lines, they are super strong. Next was the simple 3 strut one pump system. The bar is super comfortable and just feels like a solid kite. These are what DeeDee and I will be ripping on from now on; super fun and super safe.

We've only had these thing a few days and I already find myself wanting to go back out and ride. Not to mention I got what I feel is the best build board in the industry. My 5'8 Pohutu made by UnderGround.

Sherman Island is getting warmer with more and more people showing up. Good seeing all my old friends and we had a great time on the water today. Two sessions one with my DeeDee, and second session she snapped the shots for me. She's the best. Lots of wind and I think we're going to make it here for the whole summer after all.

Pismo Beach

Every year the West Coast Kitesurfing communities come together to the Central Coast on the shores of Pismo Beach for a gathering. Showing off new products and say my shit is better than your shit!!! Good times and for a good cause.

About a year ago a fellow kitesurfing buddy had a bad kite accident and almost died, the event in Pismo raised money to hep him and his family. Such a great event. thanks everyone who made it possible and to those who came and showed their support. Every year the event keeps getting better and better.

We finally made it up to Sherman Island and it feels soo good to be back in a prime kite location. It looks like were planing on spending our summer on Sherman if all goes as planned. First day here and it was already blowing.

Our trip back up to the states went great. We stayed in the Bay of Conception for a few nights and got to kite and fish there. What an awesome stop that was. From there we headed to Abrejeos and hit up the wave scene where there was some killer off shore action. We caravaned with a few friends and had a crew of campers. We had a blast, in total we took 5 days to make the 1000 mile trip back to the border. Now back to the real world.

DeeDee and I finished the 11 mile crossing strapless and loving it.

The event was well planned, everything went great. Lots of great people and even better lots of wind. Thanks to all the people who volunteered their time to help run the event. This year's Classic raised $18,487 USD and removed 10.5 tons of trash from our town!!!!

I have a 5'7 Gambler and a 5"10 Magnum in anyone wants to take them out for a spin. Tim at Palapas Ventana is the Wainman Baja dealer down here so check with him for more gear too.

No wind and no waves in La Ventana for the next couple of days so we got on Highway 1 and headed to the pacific side, Marquez was the name of the spot. Only about an hour drive out of La Paz. A few of us joined forces and set up camp for the night. By the next morning the wind was blowing before breakfast. It turned out to be a fun little adventure. Thanks Johnny Pow a.k.a. Mercery Man for the lead on the trip.

Well the wind and the fishing has been good but I'm still waiting on more waves . This was the last day we saw with waves about 2 weeks ago. DeeDee dropped me off up wind, I strapped on the Go-Pro and I hit up all the reefs on the way back down. Man was it fun!!!

Mexican Nationals Kite Competition

La Ventana was a pit stop for the Mexican Nationals this year. The competition was a freestyle event then a race from the hot springs to Playa Central. Lots of people showed up to support this event so it will bring the event back next year with a good turn out. The military was here with a show, then Tecate and Rockstar stayed for the whole event. Great food and people. hope it happens again next year.

The Mexican Military showed up for Security purposes, It was nice to have the Mexican Culture surrounded by us.

My dad came down from Los Angeles to visit for a few weeks, let him check out how I spent my winters. He loves it so far Fishing has been great. We woke up early the first morning he got here and caught small fish from the shore, then the next day we took the boat out.....

DeeDee and I took the boat out to the Bay of the Dead and she caught her first 2 dorado. We hooked about 4-5 but only got 2 in the boat.

I love the dorado fishing down here in Baja, great eating and one of the most challenging fish to get in the boat. We have a great time out here in the Sea of Cortez.

So the wind has been light for a few days and the fishing has been good. My buddy Rola took me out early and we scored the Dolphin Fish. DeeDee and I have been going out almost every morning having lots of fun Catching, Roster and Dorado oh yeah and some long Needle fish!!! Awwww Life has been good!!! Check out the good times!!!

Well we made the 1000 mile trip down

The trip down went great. We stayed in the bay of conseption for a few days then couldn't resist to chase the wind, so we woke up early and hit the road by late afternoon we made it to La Ventana

We arrived just in time to ride our first few days here and have been everyday, the place is empty and we are loving the warm wind conditions.

Baja Joe's still one of the best most friendly places to stay after all these years.

We got a sick spot with cool neighbors and loving it all day everyday down here, Now I understand those goofy bumper stickers that say "No Bad Days" Come stop by we're at YoYo's look for the Wainman Hawaii flag as you roll into town.

The Wind Shut down for a few day so we headed to the coast. We Parked it at a spot called Shipwrecks, its near Astoria. Our Buddy Jacob met up with for a few days and he killed it both days!! Good times at the beach.

Winter Vacation begins for DeeDee and I, since we've been stuck in Newport on the coast we've decided to head to a warm windy location. Rufus!!!!

Its already past the first day of fall and we've been out on the water almost everyday. We shortly headed east after a few weeks to score morning sessions at Roster, then headed to the coast. Winter vacation has started good.

Well my first kite trip since I've been back to work this summer and man was it a blast. DeeDee and I headed south for Chris's Annual Demo day down in Sherman Island. He plans it on a full moon so you can go out and ride at night. It was way fun midnight riding, a BBQ with Maui Mike, the Wainman gang, my Girlfriend, even my parents showed up from Los Angeles.

Sherman Island was the Badass!!! Warm, Windy, good people and a sweet demo well done by Chris from Kite Naked. The best little 3 day Vacation from my 70+ hour work week.

The new Blunts and Jokes showed up with the US Wainman Distributor (Drew) Demoed them out and cant wait to get one to call my own.

Hood River

Went to the Hood for the weekend and got a good day of riding and hanging out with friends. I heard a bunch of the "Locals" headed out east which left the spot light on all the weekend warriors. DeeDee and I had a good time there once again, lots of 7's and 9's out. Fun day meeting new people and seeing old faces.

Wainman Stepped it up and sponsored a slider for the summer. To bad it wasn't in the water!!!! Oh well next time I guess....

Lots of Kites, lots of fun!!!!

Windance and Ocean Rodeo had a nice little demo/party with 2 free kegs and live music right there on the sand bar. Those are the kind of parties I like to go to not some shop trying to make money at a local bar where you have to pay to get into. That was a good time worth going to. Literally got out of the water grabbed a cup and drank a few free beers. Thanks Windance and Ocean Rodeo.

Lots of rain in Newport the last few days so DeeDee and I headed to Hood River. Only about a 3 hour drive as it was well worth the trip.

I've never seen the Hood so empty, it felt like no one was there. My buddies and I rolled in there 3 cars deep and

had a fun little session.

Wind was up and down then back up again so the Rabbit kites were money. The Gypsy (7m) was the ticket for me and the girlfriend took out the Smoke (9m)!!!

IKO was putting on a class out there. It was funny watching them all learning "how to give a lesson" I got one word for them fools SUCKERS!!!!!

All and all it was a fun filled day. DeeDee, Ratso and I had a good time. Now back to Newport to step it up and hit some more waves.

Building America

I love it back to working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week. 6pm to 6am!!!! It's a tuff job but someone's got to do it!!! And I'm the guy for the job!!!!

Of course I do have plenty of assistance from my co- workers that keep me up to speed with how to do the job right the first time!!!

There's something about watching the sun go down and then watching it come back up all in the same day. The long hours work out great for the lifestyle I live, work hard all summer then play even harder in the Winter!!! Man I'm going to be bummed after we finish this job. But I'm sure I'll have plenty of cash saved up after this to do whatever I want!!!!

Back to building America!!!! I got the call to get my ass back in gear and got back into the work scene. Long hours and hard work pays the bills.

Working on highway 20 the one road that brings you fron I-5 to the coast (Corvallis to Newport) making your trips to the beach a lot easier and safer than ever before. The road should be done by June 2011.

Ran into my buddy Brendan Mathews from down in Mexico and he also scored the goods with me. Good people, good wind and bomb ass waves. South Beach is the shit!!!!!

Bonetti's Back in The West!!!!

Here I am back in Newport Oregon Killing it every chance I get. South Beach is one of the best wave spots around central Oregon. DeeDee and I are parked walking distance to the the jetty and loving every minute of it!!!

Soon to be back to work so I'll be hitting the waves as much as possible until then. Cold clean water is the name of the game now. With wind and waves just about everyday I'm sure to have another badass summer!!!!

The marine life out here is amazing. Newport is soon to be NOAA headquarters.

Hatteras was fun, I guess it's one of the best spots on the East Coast...? Everyone we met was friendly and were all about having a good time. One week on the Sound side and one week on the Ocean side was long enough for my West coast ass!!! 2 weeks on the east coast had me missing the the West Coast. My buddy told me everything is better out west, now that I've experienced both I can second that!!! Makes me realize how good I have it in California and Oregon. Although I had a great time in Hatteras it's time to get back to my side of the country.

Thank you Jade Russ and Jed for everything, I would of never went out there on my own. I'm glad I friends that open my eyes to new places. Russ and Jade hooked DeeDee and I up with a place to stay and fed us everyday. We ate like Kings!!! Jedi was the cook. We had grouper, steak, chicken anyhing he cooked was healthy and delicious.

Here is the badass house we stayed at. Hot tub, beach launch and cool people what else can one ask for...? We had a great time here, I met Chris and John from MacKite they offer lessons and are a Cabrinha dealer. Check them out if you ever go to Michigan, very friendly people.

Here is the guy who made it all happen. I call him Jedi others know him as Jed or JR. Jedi actually travels around the US and Baja kiteboarding all winter and when the Gorge warms up he returns back to his house near Hood River.

Jedi stepped it up this year and bought a full quiver of Wainman Kites.

For an old guy Jed tears it up on the water, especially on his skimboard. I've never seen him ride straps so that leaves him riding Skimboards and Surfboards. He has a unique style that stands out on and off the water!!!

This is my Girlfriend DeeDee, she learned to kite a few months ago down in Baja Mexico now she a Wainman ripper!!! A good buddy of mine introduced us in La Ventana and we've been together traveling even since.Here she is trying out my 14m lines on the gypsy, She's learning very quickly how kites work.
With only 5 months of kiteboarding under her belt she's one of the quickest learners I've ever met, maybe thats why her and I click so well... Either way her girlfriends in Mexico hooked her up with a few lessons and now she is totally hooked!!

Well the wind has been Nucking just about everyday since we got here. North Carolina is a great spot to be this time a year, yesterday a little rain came through so we went to the Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center‎ Lots of cool info there. These were the first guys that got to fly way back in 1903. Over a hundred years later people fly here from all over to fly their kites and enjoy the beautiful Outer Banks!!!!

Pismo Beach Kite Expo

The Central Coast is one of my favorite places to be in the early spring. Its cols but it usually blows pretty good up near Pismo this time of year. A few days before the Expo there were guys out on 7's and 9's. The day of the event there was bearly enough wind to get trainer kites up, The Wainman boys had the Big Mama up and man did it turn heads.

The wind never came up for the event but at least Chris from KiteNaked was there to show off all of the BasAss Wianman gear, its a tuff job but someone's got to do it!!!

Blunts just a little different shape & Rocker. I know there are a bunch of them around Long Beach for people to try out.

Of course the wind came up the day after the expo so me and a few other companies stayed around and demoed out our new gear. I started on the Boss (12m) and finished the day off on the Gypsy (7m) the wind blew the next day too!!!

There were people out on 15's and people out on 7's all and all not to bad of a day with over head high surf.

So Yeah Jedi and Russ taught me how to fly fish!!! these guys showed me how to do it right, we tied our own flies, woke up at crack of dawn and caught some fish!!!! With the knowage I've learned from these two I see big game fish caught on the fly on my next trip. We kind of hit the colder monthes in Vantana but still caught some Roster and Jacks. I never realized how fun fishing could be on such light tackle.

So I'm Finally back from Baja and boy was if Fun!!!! I have soo many stories to tell I dont know where to start...?

First off I start the trip thinking I was going to be roughing it, but soon as I hit La Ventana I ran into good people , REAL People!!!! With all my travels I've learned these kind of people are far and few between.

I stumbled upon a good old friend, Jedi (JR.) He rented a fat ass place right on the beach, and sure enough I parked the Bonetti Camper right there next to his pad. Jedi stepped it up and got a set of Bad Boy kites for himself. Jedi is now riding Wainman Kites and man does the old guy love them!!!

His niece and her husband came down from Michigan to get some kiting in, and they sure got to kite. I don't think either one of them knew what they were doing when they arrived. After a few days Jedi's niece Jade,was up, riding and staying up wind!!! Her husband Russ, was struggling a bit at first then after extending his Vacation another month he shortly figured it out as well!!!

The LBC went off today I got the call around 8ish and headed down. Showed up to a few kites already out, I took out the Bunny (5m) and My buddy Kyle jumped on the gypsy (7m) 2 hours later the wind was gone. Some people headed south to Huntington for a second session.

Sunday Nov. 29th

The longer I stay out here the more I love it!

South Padre Island has been going off!!!! These last few days was warm south winds and tomorrow comes the cold north winds.

Sick solo saltwater pond session, I parked my truck way down wind from everyone and just killed the huge pond that drains out to the bay. The Gypsy 17m lines and the Buzz board. I kited up wind threw some huge air for the crowd and then back to my very own salt water pond, haucking huge airs. When in the air you can see the fish scram around like if I was a Hawk coming down to get them!!!! It was one of those moments where I know that spot will be on my mind for a long time!!!!!!

Then to top it all off Patrick a few buddies and I all hit up the others side of the island for a 6 mile down winder!!!!

Man I loving this place!!!!!!
